About Us

Veterinary medicine is one of the least culturally, racially, and ethnically diverse professions in America. As a result, the voices of those on the fringes are often unheard. It can be an isolating experience.

The Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed in 2014 to address this need. We seek to foster a community of veterinary professionals from diverse backgrounds and cultures to create a mutual support network for our members. Furthermore, our goal is to harness the collective knowledge of our members to address both our own needs and the needs of a modern, multicultural society.

Our Mission

The Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association exists to lead veterinary medicine towards the racial and ethnic diversity, equity, and inclusivity that our profession needs to serve a multicultural society.

Our Vision

To transform the veterinary profession into one which is inclusive and equitable, where people of underrepresented races and ethnicities are valued and supported in their careers resulting in all communities receiving the benefits of veterinary medicine.

Our Goals

Create a space in which veterinary professionals of diverse backgrounds can network and educate each other.

Create a more culturally-responsive workforce so as to support a diverse and multicultural society.

Create better access to veterinary care in underrepresented communities so as to improve animal health, and better establish veterinary contributions to public health.
Increase awareness of veterinary medicine in underrepresented communities.
Support and mentor a diverse group of upcoming veterinary professionals.
